Study in Malaysia

Straddling the South China Sea and home to an array of cultures, a diverse geography, and a futuristic capital city, Malaysia is a truly unique country, in both its landscapes and its citizens.

Choose to study in Malaysia and you’ll discover that the country’s natural beauty extends way beyond its ancient rainforests, national parks, and glorious beaches. In the cities too, there’s plenty to keep all the senses occupied, from colorful and varied markets to the mosques, Buddhist temples, and Hindu shrines that are often found side by side, and the profusion of annual festivals celebrating both traditional and modern aspects of Malaysian culture.

One of the world’s most politically stable countries, Malaysia may be second to Singapore in terms of regional economic clout, but it offers a much more organic lifestyle than its city-state rival. One-half of the country, situated on the southern tip of the peninsula below Thailand, is known as Peninsular Malaysia.

This is where the highest-ranked universities in Malaysia can be found, along with the most diverse and vibrant urban areas. The other half, Malaysian Borneo, shares an island with Indonesia and remains the quieter of the two halves, offering solitude, authenticity, and jungle life.

Cost of Living

One of many reasons why international students choose Malaysia is because of its cost-effective, high quality tertiary education. As an example, you can acquire a UK engineering degree (3 years) in Malaysia through a 3+0 foreign university franchised degree programme at an estimated RM68,000 (US$17,000), whereas the tuition fee of the same 3-year degree programme at the host university in the UK is about £36,000 (or RM217,000 or US$54,250).

As such, a student can save up to RM149,000 (US$37,250) in tuition fees if he or she chooses to study in Malaysia (see Table 2.24). If cost of living is taken into account, students who complete their entire 3+0 degree in Malaysia can save up to an estimated RM216,000 (US$54,000).

Courses and Universities

International students can choose from a comprehensive range of courses, programs and other study options offered by hundreds of Malaysia’s universities and colleges. Some popular study options include unique collaborative degree programs such as twinning degrees & 3+0 degree programs.

Malaysia is well-known for its undergraduate ‘2+1’ twinning degree programme, which offer a cost-saving route for quality education and qualifications from reputable international universities in the United Kingdom, USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and France.
